Types of ACB Protection Units

HA or Non-Auto

These breaker types have no protection what so ever and therefore are commonly used as buscouplers or where protection is not required

Introduction

There various protection types that are designed to protect power circuits and loads. We have selected the most popular, Schneider range of Micrologic protection units for examples, other manufacturers are similar but may vary slightly.

Micrologic 5.0A / 5.0E / 5.0P / 5.0H

The protection here is commonly known as Selective Protection giving Long Time Protection, Short Time Protection & Instantaneous trip functions.

Micrologic 2.0A / 2.0E

The protection here is commonly known as Basic Protection giving Long Time Protection & Instantaneous Trip functions.

Micrologic 6.0A / 6.0E / 6.0P / 6.0H

The protection here is commonly known as Selective & Earth Fault Protection, giving Long Time Protection, Short Time Protection, Instantaneous trip functions and Earth Fault.

This earth fault can either be used as Earth Fault or Restricted Earth Fault (Please note this cannot be used as both)

Micrologic 7.0A / 7.0E / 7.0P / 7.0H

The protection here is commonly known as Selective & Earth Leakage Protection, giving Long Time Protection, Short Time Protection, Instantaneous trip functions, and Earth Leakage up to 3200A.

Differences Between A, E, P & H.

These detail the measurements and programmable protection of each meter,

A = Ammeter

E = Energy Meter

P = Power Meter

H = Harmonics Meter

A = Ammeter

A displays Amps only

E = Energy Meter

The difference between A & E is simply E displays Amps, Volts, Power Factor, Power and energy metering measurements.

P = Power Meter

The Power Meter incorporates everything from A plus the Power Meter + Programmable Protection, including measurements of, V, A, W, VAR, VA, Wh, VARh, Hz, V peak, A peak, Power Factor & maxi-meters and mini-meters.

Further incorporating IDMTL long-time protection, minimum and maximum voltage and frequency, voltage and current imbalance, phase sequence, reverse power.

Load shedding and reconnection, dependant on power or circuit

Measurements of interrupted currents, differentiated fault indications, maintenance indications, event histories and time stamping.

H = Harmonics

The Harmonics Meter incorporates everything from P plus harmonics, including power quality fundamentals, distortion, amplitude and phase of harmonics up to the 31st order

Waveform capture after fault, alarm or on request.

Enhanced alarm programming: thresholds and action
