Switchboard Sizing

In Switchgear, there are two types of access Front & Rear Access, as further detailed below which define the Switchboard size

 

Front Access - All the cabling connections are accessible from the front and therefore the panel is typical wall mounted and only requires front access of a minimum of 1 Meter

 

Rear Access - Commonly known as Front & Rear Access, however, all the cables are accessible from the rear and therefore requires front and rear access of a minimum of 1 Meter

Typically fitted within a single section:

1No. ACB Incomer OR

18No. 250A MCCB's OR

8No. 630A MCCB OR

3No. 1600A MCCB

Populating additional sections is completed by adding the same size section next to the above and populating again with what units are required

HOWEVER on FRONT ACCESS you need to add cableways as detailing further below, this for the cable glanding areas

FRONT ACCESS ONLY - CABLE CHAMBERS

For outgoing MCCB's the following cable chambers must be added to the LEFT & RIGHT-hand side of the section that has been populated. There are two types and are to be used as detailed below

FORM 4 TYPE 1-5 Panels use 500mm Wide Chamber

FORM 4 TYPE 6 Panels use 750mm Wide Chamber

These added to each side of the breaker populated compartment

Sizing Switchboards is not easy and not something to take for granted, it is arguably the number one requirement of all consultants while specifying switchgear.
